An early-morning flight from Montréal: when to leave and how to get there
Aéroports de Montréal recommends arriving at least 3 hours before departure. Security checkpoint A (Canada and international) opens at 3 a.m. and checkpoint C (US flights, with US customs) at 4:15 a.m. For a 6 a.m. flight, that means being at the airport around 3 a.m., when taxis are scarce and the 747 bus runs its night schedule, so book the ride the day before.

The official timings
- Arrive at least 3 hours before departure (ADM's single recommendation; it doesn't split domestic and international). ADM
- Checkpoint A (Canada and international, except US) opens 3:00 a.m.; checkpoint C (US flights: security + US preclearance) opens 4:15 a.m., for reference and subject to change. ADM
- US-bound passengers clear US customs at YUL before boarding, so there's nothing to do on arrival in the US. ADM
- The 747 bus runs 24 hours, with less frequent night service. STM
Working back from your flight
- Flight time − 3 h = time at the airport.
- Minus the drive: about 20–30 minutes from downtown at night; more from Laval, the South Shore or farther.
- Minus 10 minutes to load bags: that's your pickup time.
- Book it the evening before at the latest, and set two alarms.
